Submit completed application and waiver by entry deadline of January 15, 2011.
1. Become a MRA (Mountain Rodeo Association) member by January 23, 2011.
2. Must not be a parent, married, divorced, or pregnant.
3. Must reside in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, or Kings County.
4. Meet age Criteria: Please Note age is determined by age on January 1, 2011.
a. Little Miss 5-8 Years Old
b. Princess 9-14 Years Old
c. Queen 15 – 20 Years Old
Rules:
1. Ticket Sales are required. To remain eligible the quota established for the appropriate division must be fulfilled.
a. Little Miss: 150 Tickets
b. Princess: 250 Tickets
c. Queen: 400 Tickets
*Any contestant selling over their quota will receive .25 cents per ticket sold.
2. Contestants will provide their own equine for the contest. The equine may be borrowed, but must be used throughout the duration of the contest (Start to Finish). Only with the approval of the Royalty Director can the equine be changed.
3. Two community service commitments must be documented and completed prior to coronation. Please submit to the Royalty Director once completed.
4. During the duration of the contest only 3 mandatory commitments may be missed.
5. All contestants and winner of the contest are required to dress in western attire when representing the MRA in any capacity. That includes the buckles, sashes, and crowns as applicable and cowboy hat or helmet. Helmet use is suggested.
6. Contestants and winners are not permitted during the contest or their reign to use alcohol, drugs, or foul language.
7. Parents must be willing to attend and assist with practices, transport, etc.
8. Upon our initial meeting contestants will be drawing a topic for the demonstration portion of the judging.
9. All phases of the judging will take place on May 15, 2011. The coronation will take place during the Squaw Valley Rodeo on May 21, the rodeo also takes place on May 22, 2011.
10.There will be 3 phases to the judging of this royalty competition:
a. Demonstration portion: a 7-10 minute demonstration on the drawn topic (horse/rodeo related) will be given to have contestant show knowledge of topic as well as organization and public speaking skills. Judges will be able to ask questions at the end of the demonstration so please be sure to ask if there are any questions. Friendliness and confidence will also be judged in this portion. Props, note cards, and poster boards are expected. 3 judges will judge this phase. Other contestants/spectators can view this portion. This phase is worth 30 points (1-10 from each judge).
b. Horsemanship portion: Rail work as a group will take place for each age division and a trail pattern will be preformed by each contestant. Rail work and trail pattern will consist of walk, trot, canter, stop, back. Body position (Seat, Hands, Legs, Voice, Posture, Cues), attire, use of correct leads or attempt to correct leads as well as maintaining control of the mount will all be judged. It will not be penalized if a helmet is worn during this part of the competition but it is not required. Contestants may wear a cowboy hat in this phase. This phase will be completed in western tack/attire. Trail and rail practice will happen at contestant practices and only those obstacles we are practicing will make up the pattern that is posted the day of the competition for judging. This phase will have 1 judge. Everyone can watch as it will take place in the arena. This phase is worth 30 points for first, 20 points for second and 10 points for third place (overall for horsemanship portion).
c. Interview Portion: a panel of judges (3) will ask you questions about general horse and rodeo knowledge as well as what you would do as royalty to improve the MRA and what you would like to be when you grow up. Friendliness and confidence will be judged as well as completeness and answer of questions asked will be judged. Other contestants/spectators can view this portion. This phase is worth 30 points (1-10 from each judge)
11.In the case of a tie the contestant with the higher score in the horsemanship portion will be declared the winner. In the event this does not break the tie the contestant with the higher score in the demonstration portion of the competition will be declared the winner.
Awards:
1. Awards will be presented to the winners of each age division (sash, buckle, tiara). Each age division winner will be given a 50.00 Savings Bond.
2. Individual winners for each of the 3 portions of the judged competition will be presented for each age division will be presented with an award.
3. Each contestant will receive an award for their qualified participation/completion in the competition.
